There is no doubt in the fact that roofs are kind of the most important component of the house. Like, we can accept houses with few windows, maybe no backyard but however, no roof equals no house for everyone who doesn’t want to be drenched in rainwater or sunbathe in the comfort of their own home. So it is obvious to say that roofing is a crucial part of the building, and for that you’ll need a quality roofing contractor. Nowadays, finding the right one can be quite hard as there are many without proper license, Insurance and experience. So how do you choose the perfect one? Well, here are the ways:
-
Verify the contractor:
No contractor is the right one till he has the license to do the roofing. Always make sure he has his documents cleared. If in doubt, contact the “Attorney General’s Office” in your area or visit the Contractor’s Licensing website to determine whether he has the right papers or not. You can also ask for his tax identification number, a business address, email address or phone number etc.
-
Make sure he has his insurance policies secured:
Only hire those contractors who have Worker’s Compensation insurance and liability coverage as you never know what might happen when the roofing is being done. Roofing is a risky job and injury might occur anytime so protect yourself from lawsuits and make sure the contractor is covered.
-
Dig into the past:
Research the contractor’s previous work and contact the local Better Business Bureau to see whether the contractor’s work is satisfactory by asking the previous client.
-
Check and re-check the arrangements made:
Ask the contractor to show you proof that he has been approved by the roofing manufacturer to do the work as some roofing contracts require special training and license. Also make sure you know who is coming and going as in how many workers are there, how much time it will take etc as you might want to supervise a little bit in order to make sure nothing goes wrong and everything is going according to plan. As it involves your house, safety and security is key!
-
Read the warranty:
Know all the information in the warranty so that you are aware of the project and the actions that are taking place in full. Also so that you can take actions regarding any exceptions that would void the warranty.
-
Get proof in writing:
Ask for written information in full about the project. Tell the contractor to write it explicitly so that you are absolutely clear. Ask him to write about the length of the project, daily start and end times, safety procedures, payment etc.
-
Choose wisely:
This is the first and most crucial part of the process. Do choose wisely because roofing is a lengthy and important process. Don’t directly go for the cheap option because chances are they will provide money-worth services. A good contractor, however, will let you have a good night’s sleep knowing that in a few days, you will be sleeping under that well-built roof.
If you follow our list and do your homework you’ll be living under a roofing system that could outlast your lifetime!
Very good advice,. because if you don’t do your “homework” before getting your roof done, you could be living a nightmare!
