Summer Remodeling – 3 Reasons it’s a HOT idea!

Summer Remodeling – 3 Reasons it’s a HOT idea!

You’re finally doing it: expanding that master bath, taking your kitchen to the next level, or transforming your basement into a killer home theater. Whatever your grand plan, it’s an exciting time when you decide to fire the gun and remodel.

So the natural question that comes up is: What’s the best time of year to tackle your renovations?

While we’re in favor of home remodeling at all times of year, there are special advantages to Summer Remodeling Projects. We’ve broken down just a few of them for homeowners to ponder as they make their renovation decisions.

1. Summer Remodeling = Better Weather

Summers on the Main Line may be blistering hot, but there won’t be any blizzards sidelining the project for days at a time. In addition, the extended sunlight could mean that more work gets done each day, which means a faster turnaround time overall. Not to mention that applications that require drying time — like paint, sealers, and stain — dry faster in warmer weather, when they can be exposed to the open air.

Finally, if you’re knocking out a wall temporarily, you don’t have to worry about the house being exposed to freezing temperatures. And you can hang out in the yard or take day trips to the park to escape the construction zone.

2. Summer Remodeling = More Flexible Schedules

Lots of families find that remodeling in summer is a good choice simply because school’s out! Daily routines of getting to school, practice, and other extracurriculars are hectic enough; throwing in a half-remodeled kitchen + construction crew makes things all the more chaotic. In summer, schedules tend to be a little more lax, which makes renovating easier.

Of course, the trick is keeping the kids away from the work in progress, but that’s what those trips to the park are for!

3. Summer Remodeling = More Tolerant Neighbors

There’s no way around the fact that construction can be disruptive and noisy — it’s just the nature of the work. Better to stage these renovations in summer, when there’s naturally more going on in the neighborhood. Kids playing outside, lawns being mowed, and music coming from backyard pools and barbecues all make neighbors a little more tolerant.

Lots of great advice! I especially liked the idea, that the neighbors are more tolerant in Summer. I never really gave it much thought, so thanks!

We are thinking about remodeling our four bedroom ranch this summer. I’m hoping I can do a great job.
